Danica Kelly, M.S.M., is director of operations at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. In this role, she monitors and maintains the Center’s fiscal health, overseeing budgets, business operations, and human resources. For ten years, prior to joining the Center, Danica held a variety of finance and business operations positions at Yale, starting at the Yale School of Management. She began her career working for housing authorities in southwestern Connecticut. Danica holds a B.A. in Psychology from Skidmore College. She holds a Master’s of Science in Management from Albertus Magnus College, where she was awarded honors in the Tagliatela School of Business and Leadership program.

Nikki Elbertson, M.Ed., is the director of product development and implementation at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. In various research and training roles at the Center since 2002, she has contributed to the development, implementation, and evaluation of RULER from early childhood through high school. Nikki has co-authored many of the Center’s research studies and curricula, including scholarly articles, papers, and book chapters. Her favorite emotion management strategy is teaching group fitness classes, which she’s been doing since 2008.

Jessica Hoffmann, Ph.D., is a research scientist at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence where she currently serves as the Director of Research and Assistant Professor at the Child Study Center in the Yale School of Medicine.

Jessica received her B.A. in psychology and sociology from Brandeis University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology from Case Western Reserve University. Jessica specializes in working within school settings to develop approaches and programming (RULER and inspirED) aimed at enhancing children’s creativity, promoting positive school climates, and enhancing mental health. Her current research focuses on the efficacy of RULER and inspirED for secondary schools, including the impact of emotion skills instruction on school climate, creative problem solving, and emotion regulation ability.

Craig S. Bailey, Ph.D., is director of RULER for Early Childhood at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence​ and Assistant Professor at the Child Study Center in the Yale School of Medicine. As a co-developer of RULER​, Dr. Bailey and his team facilitate professional development workshops and develop content for practicing and teaching emotional intelligence. As a researcher, Dr. Bailey conducts psychological, educational, and intervention research, and in general, his research explores children’s social and emotional learning in early childhood classrooms with an emphasis on how educators support and promote the development of empathy and emotion regulation.

With experience as an early childhood educator, Dr. Bailey is passionate about bridging the gap between research and practice, and in Connecticut, he is the Principle Investigator on several community-based researcher-to-practitioner partnerships funded by local community and family foundations. With federal funding from the Institute of Education Sciences, Dr. Bailey is also the Principle Investigator of a Goal 3 Efficacy Trial of RULER in preschool settings (#R305A180293). Dr. Bailey serves as a consultant for numerous initiatives and organizations, most notably for the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning. At home, Dr. Bailey is a proud father of two young children.

Diana Divecha, Ph.D., is a developmental psychologist and an assistant clinical professor with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. She collaborates with Center researchers on RULER’s approach to bullying prevention, as well as on thought leadership and informing public opinion on the relevance of emotional intelligence.

Diana served on the psychology faculty of Sonoma State University in northern California where she co-founded and chaired the Department of Human Development. She taught courses on development from birth through the period of emerging adulthood, with a special emphasis on cognitive development, culture, and the development of the self.

Diana has worked with children with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and severe behavior problems. She has guided parent education in several schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. She currently writes about research on children’s development and advises organizations, like the Greater Good Science Center and Futures Without Violence, on matters pertaining to children and families. Fran is currently the Principal at Northwestern Middle School in Barkhamsted CT, a RULER school. Fran completed the two year Changemaker Fellowship with the YCEI. Marc Brackett, Ph.D. is the founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, a professor in the Child Study Center at Yale University, and the author of the bestselling book, Permission to Feel (now translated into twenty-seven languages), which has transformed how individuals, schools, and organizations understand and apply emotional intelligence.

Laura Artusio is a psychologist and research fellow at the University of Florence where she directs the Laboratory of Psychology, Emotions & Research (PER Lab) founded in 2013 during her European Ph.D. She has worked in collaboration with the team at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence since 2009 and, as a certified RULER trainer, Laura is now the coordinator of RULER in Italy. Her goal is to bring the Emotion Revolution to her country and to integrate Social and Emotional Learning into the Italian school system. Karen Niemi is the executive director at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. With a distinguished career in the field of social and emotional learning (SEL), Karen has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of SEL both nationally and globally. Before joining the Center, she served as the President and CEO of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), where she played a pivotal role in establishing SEL as a critical component of education reform, enhancing CASEL’s operational strategies, and fostering impactful collaborations. Karen has been a key figure in expanding funding sources, diversifying revenue streams, and driving the financial and operational success of SEL initiatives.

Robin Stern, Ph.D., is the co-founder and senior advisor for the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and an associate research scientist at the Child Study Center at Yale. She is a licensed psychoanalyst with 30 years of experience treating individuals, couples and families. Robin is the co-developer of RULER (an acronym for the five key emotion skills of recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating emotions) an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by over 1,500 public, charter, and private pre-school to high schools across the United States and in other countries.

Robin regularly consults with schools nationally and across the globe. She also consults with large companies, including Facebook and Google on best practices for integrating the principles of emotional intelligence into training and product design. With Facebook, she has co-developed a number of products, including a social resolution tools to help adults and youth resolve online conflict and the bullying prevention hub to support educators, families, and teens.

Robin is the co-founder of Star Factor Coaching, a model of leadership coaching anchored in the skills of emotional intelligence and was a founding member of the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership, where she spent 15 years creating and facilitating professional development programs for aspiring women leaders. In 2014-15 Robin was a fellow in the Yale Public Voices Fellowship, and her work is frequently published in popular media outlets, such as Psychology Today, The Huffington Post, Time.com, The Washington Post, The Hill, Harvard Business Review. She has been a guest on many local and national radio shows and has traveled widely to lecture on emotional intelligence, women in leadership and on relational bullying.

Robin is a member of the Emotional Intelligence Consortium for Research in Emotional Intelligence and serves on the advisory board for several organizations including UN Women for Peace, Crisis Text Line, I’ll Go First, Think Equal and HerWisdom.

Rebecca serves as the point person for the Center’s funding proposal process and is responsible for securing and managing gifts and grants to support the program’s mission. Rebecca comes to the Center with over 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit organizations. In this role, he is the project leader for instructional technology, including providing consultation on resource allocation and product selection. He will also manage or advise on the design and implementation of RULER and Center-wide technology (learning management systems, web tools, online assessments, Salesforce, presentations, virtual events, and other various technology solutions across the YCEI Center). With the support of a technology support specialist, Sebert is also responsible for the support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of technology used by YCEI staff and staff in schools YCEI serves.

Ruth Castillo Gualda is a psychologist with a specialization in Socio-Emotional Learning and RULER Project Director and Consultant for Spanish-speaking countries. Ruth has been a member of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence since 2010 and is a certified RULER facilitator for Spanish populations. She is also a team member of the research project RULER for High School in Mexico.

She is the Academic Design Coordinator at the Rector’s office and an Associate Professor in Developmental Psychology, Faculty of Health at Universidad Camilo José Cela (Spain). She has also been a member in several research projects at University of Granada, University of Málaga, and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, all focused on the promotion of healthy adolescence and youth development. Biografia en Español

Ruth es Psicóloga, experta en Educación Socio-Emocional, Directora del Proyecto RULER y Consultora para países de habla hispana. Ruth es miembro del Centro de Inteligencia Emocional de Yale desde 2010 y facilitadora RULER certificada para población hispanohablante. También es miembro del proyecto de investigación RULER para escuela secundaria en México.

Es Coordinadora de Diseño Académico en el Rectorado y Profesora de Psicología del Desarrollo en la Facultad de Salud de la Universidad Camilo José Cela (España). También ha sido miembro de varios proyectos de investigación en la Universidad de Granada, la Universidad de Málaga y la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, todos ellos enfocados a la promoción del desarrollo saludable durante la adolescencia y juventud. Es co-autora de varios artículos académicos que abordan la importancia de la inteligencia emocional en el funcionamiento y bienestar psicológico.
